Facebook is already beating off competition from Google’s connect service, who has teamed up with Twitter OAuth to try and make more headway.

In an earlier post ‘Why you need Facebook connect‘ I spoke about how if Facebook wanted to take on the likes of PayPal or launch a cross platform advertising system, Facebook would need to continue to push hard against PayPal’s 50 million strong user base. With this weeks announcement it seems Facebook is making tidal waves in becoming the webs ‘home country’.

In recent news surrounding Facebook we can hear about Mark Zuckerberg hinting about new services such as adverts on 3rd party sites and competing against the likes of PayPal’s 50 million strong customer base and Google checkout.

The above moves will be made a lot easier if Facebook’s Connect service takes off, and recent stats report it’s doing just that. Take a look at these impressive numbers:

Web sites that use Facebook Connect as an alternate to account registration have seen a 30-200% increase in registration on their sites.

Facebook Connect adds weight when it comes to engagement, websites can see a 15-100% increase in reviews and other user generated content

For each story published in Facebook from a website using Facebook connect, expect to see roughly 3 clicks back to the site. This creates opportunities for the site to encourage more user actions – knowing that each one may result in 3 new visits to their site.
